and the internet is a wonderful tool for helping to re-unearth information.
i'm going away in 20 days. but who's counting? and, well, i don't know.
it's not like i'm leaving school, or maryland for that matter, for good. just for six months. they shall prove to be wonderful, and terrifying, and probably rightfully reserve a spot as one of the most influential turning points of my life. but i'm having a hard time, as usual with me, in realizing exactly how. great. a. change. and at the same time how. soon. this. change. will. be. happening.
it's surreal.
i'm reading other friends' old journal entries. how marvelous. how very summer-procrastination of me.
good night all.

I saw Colin Hay of Men At Work at the Birchmere in Alexandria yesterday. It was wonderful.
After that, I also saw the gas prices at the local station and was outraged two fold at the ever exponentially climbing gas prices and at the fact that there is suspiciously no Regular grade left. I've heard one suggested reason for this, that they're switching over to Ethanol (which is a fuel product of wheat, actually) but that doesn't change the fact that it's insane and outrageous and outrageously insane. So from now until the end of school, i will be driving no where. only walking or riding public transportation.
in other news. yes, colin hay is marvelous and funny. and he was signing cds and tickets after the show. Hoorah. it must be wonderful to be a mostly-known musician. you have all these wonderful casual stories about meeting Jack Nicholson on the street and playing with Ringo Starr (though he did say that it never failed to give him a euphoric surprise at seeing the Beatle backing him up each night of that tour), or even being mistaken for Sting at a gas station in St. Louis, Missouri. The closest I've ever come to any of these is casually talking to Rick Recht, playing with Dan Nichols, and being told that I look like a young Franklin Delano Roosevelt by a sweet old lady on a NJ Transit bus on its way from Port Authority in New York City to the Warwick area.
I suppose it comes with time.
that's all for me today.
hasta luego,

Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from. Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING! (although i don't really care if you do)
1) "It's happening baby / They're putting up the chairs / Taking the money / And all we can do is pray" 2) "You're the one I've waited for / I need your love more and more / I don't know what your name is / I don't know what your game is / I want to take you tonight / Animal apetite" 3) "I used to know everything about you / But today when I tried to point you out to one of my friends / I picked the wrong girl again"
4) "He pauses shaving and he tells himself that he is the bomb / She has a curler set and credit cards are paying the funds"
5) "I look straight in the window, try not to look below / Pretend I'm not up here, try counting sheep / But the sheep seem to shower off this office tower" 6) "Men made out of monkeys / Men made into mice / Happy days are here again / And all the drinks half price / A girl with a trick and a man with a calling"
7) "I’m all at sea / Where no one can bother me / Forgot my roots / If only for a day / Just me and my thoughts / Sailing far away" 8) "Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend / Be it mine right or wrongfully / I let it slip gladly past the hands of my friends / To tie up the time most forcefully"
9) "Well, the Lone Ranger and Tonto / They are ridin' down the line / Fixin' ev'rybody's troubles / Ev'rybody's 'cept mine / Somebody musta tol' 'em that I was doin' fine" 10) "It takes a backwash man to sing a backwash song / Like a frying pan when the fire's gone / Driving my pig while the bands taking pictures in the grass / And my radio's smashed"
11) "Let's go away for a while / You and I to a strange and distant land / Where they speak no word of truth / But we don't understand, anyway."

19) "You wake up late for school - man you don’t wanna go / You ask you mom, ’please? ’ - but she still says, ’no!’ " 20) "I don't know how I'm gonna tell you, I can't play with you no more / I don't know how I'm gonna do what mama told me, My friend, the boy next door"
good luck. some of these are lesser knowns, but all the artists are well known. two artists have two songs on here.

| | ryan adams - new york, new york | ] | Just returned from a two and a half day trip/jaunt/excursion/what-have-you to New York City and my my my was it nice. Central Park, Washington Square, 42nd street, Columbia University--no, I know, pretty well-known and overly-traveled to places but I was doing it with only the help of my good friend Andrew and non-else (aside from our lodging at his cousin's apartment on 72nd). It was magnificent and I can not wait to go back again. I have always loved New York City and now that I better understand the ways of the Subway, the boroughs, the to tourist or not to tourist faux pas...it'seven more wonderful.
Though, on the note of touristy standards, we did see a show. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels based on the film. It was stupendous. A riot. A blast. As was a late-night meal at Stardust diner off Broadway and 50th. Anyhow.
The rest of break promises to be quite busy: radio fill-in tomorrow from 12-2 (listen in! wmucradio.com), some Spanish and government work to do, Argentina plans to finalize, lots of things.
What fun,
